Safe Housing Ottawa Inc.

Last updated:  February 9, 2009

Safe Housing Ottawa Inc. is pleased to announce that Action Ottawa has approved funding for the proposed environmentally safe housing plan to be built in the city's west end.

EHA Ontario also graciously thanks the CMHC Affordable Housing Centre for approval of Seed Funding for our environmentally safe housing project. These funds, amounting to $20,000 in total, will help us advance to the next stage of the project.

The funding will be used to build 24 rental units on 5 floors with an additional 40 to 50 units above that will be sold as condominiums to those who agree to the policies of “smoke-free, scent-free and chemical free living”.

The environmentally safe housing units consist of 1 and 2 bedroom units that will be specially built for the environmentally sensitive in mind. Construction will tentatively commence mid 2009 with completion hopefully by the summer of 2010.

A stakeholders meeting will be held early in 2009 -- architectural plans, building materials, designs, finances, regulations etc., are to be discussed. The date of the meeting will be posted on this web site when a date and location has been established.

The waiting list for Ottawa Safe Housing Inc. (Ottawa-west location) is now full; however, we are still accepting names to identify the need for additional housing and to fill any cancellations. We are also taking names for those interested in purchasing units through Windmill Developments.

Applicants must be members of EHA Ontario.  If you are in the process of applying for EHA Ontario membership, you will be placed on the waiting list as tentative, pending membership.  Application forms to be placed on the waiting list for environmentally safe housing (Ottawa) are available online here in: MS word format or PDF.  Applicants are also requested to complete this form as soon as possible.

If you think you may be eligible for subsidized housing, we suggest that you also request an "Application for Subsidized Housing in Ottawa" from the Housing Registry, and return your completed form to the Registry:
